Ii Gashira Tosei Samurai Armor

The Ii Gashira Tosei samurai armor was crafted in honor of the Ii clan from the Tôtômi province, vassals of the Imagawa clan. The yoroi (samurai armor) of the Ii clan was made even more famous by Ii Naomasa (井伊 直政, 1561-1602) who rose to head the family at a young age after the assassination of his father, Ii Naochika. The young Lord Naomasa served as Taisho (general) under Tokugawa Ieyasu. As a Daimyo, he later founded the Tokugawa Shogunate.

Ii Naomasa served the Tokugawa clan as one of its most reliable and competent daimyos. He and three other Daimyo became known as the "Four Guardian Kings" or "Guardians of the Four Horizons" for their acts of valor and military successes. Naomasa also became renowned for the distinctive armor in which he clad his troops, and which he wore himself. Almost entirely painted in vermilion, it drew inspiration from the legendary Takeda clan. The objective was to make his warriors appear fierce and intimidating. The tactic worked. His troops were known as the "Red Devils." Naomasa himself was called Akaoni, or "Red Ogre". This armor features the "high gold horns" (made of wood) and the brass maedate (helmet crest), characteristic of Naomasa.

This Samurai Armor is handmade by Masters. The armor matches the picture and comes with a black lacquered box and a display stand for the armor.
